SRN Game Highlights

 

Opening day started off with the Trenton Thunder playing the Lookouts of Chattanooga.  The first 2 innings was looking like a pitching duel ending 0-0 after 2.  In the top of the 3rd the Thunder had the bases loaded and Tanner Mento knocked in 3 runs with a stand up double.  Jack Irwin hit in the 4th run of the inning.  The Lookouts got one back in the bottom  of the inning making it 4-1. In the 4th, Charlie Bridge got his first base hit of the season, but the Lookouts shut it down to take it to the bottom of the 4th.  The bottom of the 4th the Lookouts got 2 more making it 4-3.  In the top of the 5th the Trenton Thunder exploded for 5 runs.  Wheeler reached on a error and Destefano walked.  With 2 on Mento hit in a run with his 2nd hit of the game.  Jackson walked to load up the bases for the Thunder.  Jack Irwin doubled in 2 runs for his 2nd hit of the game bringing up Alex Grimshaw.  He only needed to see 1 pitch to hit one deep in left field to hit an in the park home run.  Aaron Jackson and Jack Irwin came in to pitch the last 2 innings and shut the door.  9-3  Other highlights:  Donavan Gary had his first hit of his career and Max dec had a double and a single for the Lookouts.

5/8   In a game that was much closer than the final score would suggest; the Lookouts relied on good pitching and timely hitting to prevail.  Trailing 6-5 in the 5th inning, Max "Ichiro" Dec tripled to deep right field to clear the loaded bases and give the Lookouts a 8-6 lead.  Michael "Whip" Carni followed the bottom of the 5th with a scoreless inning by striking out the side for his third straight game.  He would later add a key hit.  Carter Nichols continued his aggresive hitting and added a big RBI.  "Jacoby" Way pitched an economical 21 pitch scoreless inning and added an RBI single hit sharply to right.  Then the big winds and rain came and ended it for the day.

 

Opening day concluded with a game between the Seadogs and the Diamound Jaxx's  Luke Harder and Garrett Tyre both pitched 2 innings each and were very effective in shutting down the Seadogs with 4 strikeouts each.  Luke lead the Diamound Jaxx's with a 2-3 night in helping build a 3-0 lead.  The Seadogs mounted a last inning comeback scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th to steal the victory before the rain came.The Seadogs prevailed 4-3

 

5/2    Well the Akron Aero's suffered their first loss of the season 12-2.  The bats never really got going today.  The pitching looked promising though.  Matt Tarby and Noah Anthony pitched shutout innings. 

Mudcat highlights Milewski was 2-3, Eric Matson went 2-2, and Jimmy Arcaro doubled up one of the Aero's base runners

5/3   Tuesday night brought on some good pitching.  Both teams had 30 strikeouts total.  The Mets prevailed 8-2. 

Nick Klein went 3-3 with 3 RBI'S 1 double and 2 singles.  Ryan Valentine went 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 runs scored.  Crook, Vacco, and Formoza all had singles for the winning team.

 

5/4   For the Diamound Jaxx,  Tyler Leatherwood, Chris Leonard, and Luke Harder made strong defensive plays to limit runs when the bases were loaded, getting key outs.  Ethan Swiatlowski andd Cameron Slink each drove in runs, and Luke Harder had another 2 hits for the Jaxx's.  For the Mudcats, Josh Dietrich had 2 hits and scored 2 runs, and Jonathan Mazza pitched a strong 3rd inning to shut sown the Jaxx after they took the lead, setting the stage for the 4th inning that led to their winning runs.  In the bottom of the 4th James Mason struck out 2 Jaxx batters for the final 2 outs with the bases loaded, preserving the lead and eventual winning margin.  7-6

5/5   It was an exciting game and with a well pitched outing for the LOOKouts making the difference.  Max 'Ichiro" Dec opened up the game pitching a scoreless 1st inning and later added a triple to deep center field.  In the 2nd inning Michael "Whip" Carni struck out the side for the second atraight game in a row and later added a hit along with an unassisted double play in the field.  John "The Stick" Casey lived up to his name by contributing with 2 RBI"s on a key single up the middle.  "Jacoby"Way, Jacob"sizzle"Fragale and Luc 'Macaroni and Cheese" Jerome all added hits and pitched 3 strong innings allowing only one run each.  The final score of the game was 11-4.  As for the Aero's Collin Ward was one of the hitting stars with a run scoring double. 

5/6   The Thunder suffered it's first loss of the season to the Seadogs 5-2.  Our pitching staff had 12 K's, but gave up 10 BB (9 in the first 3 innings).  Our pitching staff combine for a 1 hitter, but that did not keep the Seadogs from scoring 5 runs.  Ian Conroy hit a base clearing triple putting the game away for the evening.  The Seadogs pitching staff had 14 K's and 12BB and pitched a 2 hitter.

5/8  The Mets won their 2nd game of the season 14-7.  The 14 runs scored were due mainly to the 22 walks.  The kids were very active on the base pads as this was the first weekend of stealing.  Overall pitching was solid.  The strong winds did not help the situation.  Klein, House, and Valentine combined for 14 K's.  The Met's only had 7 hits in the win with Valentine and App having 3 each and Vacco with 1 hit.

5/10  The Diamond Jaxx built an 8-3 lead behind the hitting of Jimmy Bradley and Ethan Swiatlowski, who both had 2 run doubles each.  The pitching of Luke Harder, Brady Depan, and Alan Willmes produced 7 strikeouts in the 1st 3 innings, and overall the Jaxx only gave up 3 hits.  The Lookouts mounted their comeback in the 4th inning, tying the game when the Diamond Jaxx pitching lost their control.  The Lookouts again tool advantage i n the 5th, scoring the winning run on a bases loaded walk.  The Lookouts were led by Mike Carni, who doubled and scored 2 runs, and Jacob Way and Spencer Wirtheim, who each had a hit as well.

5/11  Tuesday night brought the first tie game of the year.  9-9.  Mike Destefano started out with a strong first inning striking out the first 3 batters he faced.  The Thunder then put up 3 runs in the bottom of the inning with a 2run single by Jack Irwin.  Matt Shipman drove in a run with a sacrifice grounder to 1st.  The Mudcats came back in the 2nd inning  with 4 runs to take the lead 4-3.  In the 2nd the Thunder took the lead again on a 2 run single by Tanner Mento.  5-4  Aaron Jackson shut them down in the 3rd for the Thunder leading to a 4 run 3rd,  to bring the Thunder lead to 9-4.  In the inning the bases were loaded and Anthony DelVecchio delivered a 2 run single, then Donavan Gary knocked in 2 more runs with his base hit single.  The Mudcats were able to tie the game up with a single form James Mason who went 2-3 on the night.  Jimmy Arcaro and Josh Dietrich had run scoring hits in the inning.  James Mason pitched the final two innings to shut the Thunder down keeping them off the board.  The Thunder then called on Jack Irwin to come in and close it out which he did in 3 batters.  The game ending in a tie.

5/12  The second tie of the year happened on Wednesday night when the Seadogs played the Aeros to a 8-8 tie.  It was an exciting night at the AA field.  Led by Matt Tarby's 6 strikouts, the Aeros struck out 14 Seadog batters.  Matt Senecal drove in 2 runs for the Aeros.  Solid defense in the field helped the team effort.

5/14  The Mets won 16-8 for their 3rd win of the season.  We were only able to get in 5 innings tonight.  The Mets ended up with 11 total hits. Ryan Valentine delivered 3 singles along with on walk.  Nick Klein added 2 hits with 1 single, 1 double and a walk.  Conner McClain had 2 singles as well.  We were able to get two new pitchers into the rotation with Jackson Aksterowicz and Owen Dann.  Valentine, Aksterowicz, Crook, and Dann struckout 10 batters.

5/15  What a game!!,  All the runs were scored i nthe first inning by both teams.  The acore ending 3-1 Thunder.  Both teams pitching staffs were amazing.  The Thunder staff had 12 k's and only 3 BB, while the Aero pitching staff had 13 K's and 3 BB.  Anthony Del Vecchio made his pitching debut with a 20 pitch inning and had 2 K's and walked only 1 batter.  Tanner Mento and Matt Shipman came up big for the Thunder each going 2-2 with runs batted in.  Just a great game in the AA division.

5/17  The Mets won 7-5 for their 4th win of the season.  The Mets inded up with 8 hits.  Nick Klein, Ryan Valentine, and Jackson Aksterowicz each delivered 2 hits each alog with Jacob Vacco and John Formoza each with 1 hit each.  Klein started the game and got us going with 2 scoreless innings along with 4 strikeouts.  Aksterowicz pitched the middle innings along with Owen Dann and although they gave up 5 runs, they combined for 7 strikeouts.  Evan Crook came on to pitch the top of the 6th and delivered 2 K's on only 14 pitches.  A very well balanced game for the Mets with 8 hits, 7 runs,and our pitchers striking out 13 batters.

5/18  Tonight the Thunder pitching staff lead by Mike Destefano, Aaron Jackson, John Coggiola, Jack Irwin, and Matt Shipman,  delivered 13 k's giving up only 4 walks.  John Coggiola made his pitching debut pitching 16 pitches and stiking out 2 batters and only walking 1.  A lot of the Thunder scoring came from a lot of walks.  Tanner Mento came through with souble scoring 1 run, and Matt Shipman drove in 2 runs with his bases loaded single.  Willmes and Harder pitched good innings for the Lumber Jaxx, and Garrett Tyre had a single hit up the middle in the 4th inning.   The Thunder prevailed 11-0.
